In a Houston Chronicle letter to the editor from November, 2004, Mr. Steve Myrick says:
“When we had an outdoors hiker trapped in mountain rocks who cut off his own arm to save himself, we called him a hero. Yet, when we have a man dying of organ failure who takes control fo the situation [by posting billboards and soliciting strangers] and lives, we call him a cheat and a disgrace.”
If the hiker cut off SOMEONE ELSE’S arm to save himself, would we still call him a hero?
Or how about if he asked a stranger “Hey can I cut off your arm so I can throw it to this bear to distract him so I can run away? I mean, you only need one arm, right? It’s relatively safe, I promise.” Still a hero?
