On October 31, UNOS sent primary administrators of living donor kidney transplant programs an individual report of recent living kidney donor follow-up rates at their program. This information can serve as a baseline to help programs assess how future data reporting may help them achieve the required minimum follow-up thresholds established in OPTN policy.
The new follow-up thresholds apply to living kidney donors who donated on or after February 1, 2013; the report being provided will not yet include follow-up rates on donors within that time frame. However, the report will outline follow-up for donors who donated between July 1 and December 31, 2012, and compare the percentage of completed data to the requirements that will become effective for more recent donors.
A guidance document is available to transplant programs considering additional effective practices to optimize living donor follow-up. UNOS will also host a free webinar on November 6 to address questions regarding the new living donor follow-up policy
