Every year, certain literary related folks examine the breakdown of certain publications’ coverage and writers by sex. Sadly, women (who make up more than 80% of the book buying public) always fall short of their penis-having brethren, in writers and author press coverage.
Near the end of last year, I considered making a concerted effort to read and talk about more women authors in 2012.
Heh.
So I’m going to do the next best thing: pull up my library lending history and see how I’ve fared, even though I’ve carried on as normal.
13 books borrowed since January 1, 2012.
8 women authors
5 male authors
3 aborted reads*: 2 men and 1 woman.
And, “The Walking Dead: the First Compendium”, a Christmas gift.
BTW, I’m on goodreads, if anyone wants to join me.
*Not the authors’ faults. Well, in one case it was the author’s fault; that book was really, really badly written. But in the other two, one of each sex, I just wasn’t in the right frame of mind for the material.
