First off, I’m a fan of “dirty jobs”. If I can be educated and made to laugh simultaneously, I’m all for it.
Second, Mike Rowe is not hard on the eyes. 🙂
Third, and probably most important, while Mike Rowe was asked to ‘convince’ a 15 year old boy to persue his Eagle Scout-dom, his response is really about how any of choose to live.
Do we get married and tether ourselves to a mortgage we’ll never pay off, or do we live abroad and realize the world is so much more than American consumerism?
Do we stay in the ‘respectable’ job or do we find our passion, even though it means we’ll never own that Mercedes?
Do we keep our heads down, or do we stick our necks out, not because it’s easy, but because it’s right?
As Mr. Rowe says, “doing something extraordinary can be very lonely, and most people simply aren’t cut out for it.” But for those of us who are, it’s an unimaginable ride.
